Do I need to meet any criteria to become a member?

No, membership to The Modern Gentry is open to anyone over the age of 18. Though we may look like a men’s group, we also welcome with open arms any women who would like to improve their social etiquette, cultural knowledge and professional style.

To give you an idea of who we are, most of our members are ambitious professionals who can engage in an intellectual conversation just as naturally as a bit of friendly banter. If you are wondering if The Modern Gentry is for you, purchase a non-members ticket to our next event.

Is there a dress code for your events?

Given there is a tailor and a stylist among our founders, we do appreciate a good sense of style. There is no set dress code for most of our events, but we do recommend that you put in the effort to polish your presentation. Like Oscar Wilde said, “You can never be overdressed or overeducated.”

Where there is a dress code, this will be detailed on the event invitation.

How much does membership cost?

Who can I contact to speak at one of your events? 

We host an array of events that range from talks to hands-on workshops. If you believe you have a skill to impart to our members or a motivational story to share, send an email to clare@themoderngentry.com.au.

What are the benefits of becoming a member?

Our monthly events are popular and many have limited numbers. They give our members a chance to make genuine connections with each other and our special guests and speakers. By becoming a member, you gain priority access to all events as well as special offers from our affiliates. Members are also invited to join our private Facebook group, where we keep the conversation going between events and share interesting articles.

Can I suggest ideas for upcoming events?

Yes. If there is something you would like to learn more about, chances are other members do too. Whether you have been wondering how to choose and buy art, or are keen to master the art of public speaking, we are open to all ideas.

Maybe you know a great venue? Or an amazing boat we can hire for a cocktail party? We would like to hear about those, too.

Do you host events outside of Brisbane?
